Sorbic acid CAS 110-44-1 is a colorless solid that is slightly soluble in water and sublimes readily. It was first isolated from the unripe berries of the Sorbus aucuparia (rowan tree), hence its name. As a synthesized chemical, this food acidulent is generally recognized as halal.

APPLICATIONS
- Typical concentration 0.05-0.3% (if used alone) or 0.05-0.15% (if used in combination with other preservatives).
- Sorbic Acid CAS 110-44-1 is widely used to inhibit yeast and molds in processed cheese, wine, fruit juices, and some baked goods (pastries). It is also used in processed meats as an alternative to preservation using nitrites.
- Sorbic Acid CAS 110-44-1 kills microorganisms, or prevents or slows their growth and reproduction, and thus protects cosmetics and personal care products from spoilage.
